Repair Summary

Checked gas range for a complaint of the burner electrodes continuing to spark while the flame was lit on a low setting. The customer stated the concern only occurred on the center front burner, while all other burners operated normally. Verified the complaint and determined the issue appeared intermittent, with a possible short between the burner regulator and the spark igniter. Ordered and returned with both the spark module and igniter. After installing the new parts, tested the range and verified the center front burner no longer sparking while the flame was lit. During additional testing, observed the front left burner intermittently sparking on a medium-high flame. Contacted GE technical support and reviewed the findings. Tech support determined the flame was contacting the igniter electrode and recommended cleaning the burner caps and lightly dressing the surface of the igniter electrode. Although the burner caps were not excessively dirty, cleaned them and lightly polished the electrode surface as instructed. Retested all burners multiple times and verified they ignited properly and operated without additional intermittent sparking. Advised the customer to continue monitoring the unit. Unit checks normal at this time.
