Repair Summary
Checked dryer for customer complaint of the unit not starting. Upon arrival, confirmed that the dryer was inoperative and uploaded video documentation of the condition. The dryer is installed in a confined closet with insufficient clearance to fully remove the appliance. Carefully repositioned the dryer forward to gain enough access for disassembly and component inspection. Found evidence of moisture accumulation within the dryer exhaust system, consistent with the customer's report of ongoing humidity issues inside the home. Further inspection revealed a failed blower housing thermostat and visible rust and corrosion on the thermistor, indicating moisture exposure. Additionally, found the flexible dryer exhaust hose crushed, creating a significant airflow restriction. During testing, observed an abnormally prolonged cooldown period, further supporting concerns regarding inadequate exhaust airflow and ventilation performance.
Recommended replacing the damaged exhaust hose with a properly sized, dryer-rated exhaust duct and having the entire dryer vent system professionally cleaned and inspected, including the roof termination, to verify that the exhaust pathway is unobstructed and the exterior vent damper opens and closes properly. Explained that restricted airflow can cause excessive internal temperatures, premature failure of thermal protection components, and reduced drying efficiency. Also advised the customer that the existing moisture and humidity conditions must be investigated and corrected to help prevent recurring corrosion and electrical component failures. Informed the customer that if the underlying ventilation and moisture issues remain unresolved and additional component failures occur, subsequent service charges may apply, and related repairs may not qualify for warranty coverage. Customer was made aware of all findings, recommendations, and potential consequences of continued operation without correcting the underlying conditions.
