Model: RT70F18LASRAA

Location: Cape Coral, FL 33993

Repair Summary

Checked refrigerator for the customer’s complaint of insufficient cooling in the fresh food compartment. Upon inspection, verified that the compressor, evaporator fan, and condenser fan were operating properly. Also confirmed that the freezer ice maker was producing ice, indicating sufficient freezer cooling for ice production. Further inspection revealed excessive moisture accumulation inside the fresh food compartment. Examined the refrigerator door gasket and found that the sealing surface was not making proper contact with the cabinet liner, allowing warm, humid air to enter the compartment and affecting cooling performance. Attempted to reshape and remold the gasket to restore proper sealing; however, the gap was too significant to correct through adjustment. Confirmed that the refrigerator doors had been reversed to accommodate the customer’s installation requirements, a configuration the customer specifically selected this model to support. Removed the doors for further inspection and identified an alignment gap near the lower hinge assembly. Contacted manufacturer Technical Support, reviewed the findings, and was instructed to replace the lower door hinge and gasket.

Returned and replaced the lower hinge assembly and door gasket as directed by Technical Support. Verified that the replacement hinge was properly installed and seated flush. Additionally, replaced the complete refrigerator door assembly in an attempt to correct the alignment and sealing concern. Following installation, the same sealing gap remained present with both the original and replacement doors. Further inspection identified a manufacturing-related alignment defect involving the door hinge mounting locations. The left hinge mounting hole was positioned slightly farther forward than the right, causing the door to sit farther away from the refrigerator cabinet and preventing the gasket from making complete contact with the cabinet liner. Despite replacement of the lower hinge, door gasket, and complete door assembly, the sealing gap could not be eliminated. Determined that the condition could not be corrected through additional component replacement or conventional adjustments. The refrigerator was deemed non-repairable under the existing door configuration due to the cabinet hinge mounting alignment defect.

Attempted to contact manufacturer Technical Support to document the persistent defect and unsuccessful repair attempts; however, the call was disconnected before the findings could be fully reviewed. Uploaded photographs and videos documenting the hinge mounting locations, door positioning, and remaining sealing gap for manufacturer evaluation. Technical Support subsequently contacted our company and provided a reference number authorizing further exchange resolution. The refrigerator continues to experience an unresolved door sealing defect that compromises fresh food cooling performance. All recommended component replacements and adjustments have been completed without correcting the condition. The case has been referred to the manufacturer for replacement processing, and no further field repairs are recommended for the identified cabinet alignment defect.
